. >>. >> shep: back to days of trouble for the number one aircraft maker boeing and 787 dream liner. according to officials at logan airport, a japan airliner spilled nearly 40 gallons of fuel moments before it was to take off. a fire broke out in the belly of a different airliner at logan filling the cabin with smoke. springer. it has had all kinds of problems? >> it really has. it has a series of electrical problems starting with a fire at a test flight back in 2010. yesterday's battery fire, everyone was off the plane when they discovered smoke in a cabin and traced it to a battery compartment. lithium battery, when the engines are off had overheated. in december there were three less serious problems. one forced a diverted landing in new orleans and one grounded a plane and united ground add plane to replace a power panel and gin rateder. >> it's all electrical power. that generates a lot of heat, just enormous amount of heat that has to be cooled. if you don't cool it then you have failures in the electronics bay. you have failures in the systems >> reporter: boeing says the problems are

in the state legislature. jenna: rick, thank you. jon: just in, new problems for boeing as a pair of its brand-new dreamliner jets run into problems at boston's logan airport this week. we showed you on monday a battery fire that caused severe damage to a japan airlines plane. you can see the smoke pouring out of the hatch in the here. another japan airlines dreamliner dumped 40 gallons of rule on the runway. and there was a problem with the brakes system. boeing stock is taking a hit. jeri will list is the host of the business report on the fox business network and skwroeupbgs us now. >> reporter: the stock fell 3% yesterday, it's up today as people take in the news about the dreamliner. it is a critical product for boeing. they put a lot of money into it. it's technologically advanced made out of lightweight carbon fiber, it's supposed to save on fuel costs over time. they have 800 orders for these airplanes. as you know japan airlines has taken a couple of them here. united continental has taken delivery of these planes. they've delivered 49 of these planes. it's important to note here why

. >>> the mechanical problems keep rolling in for boeing's 787 dream liner. the latest happened in japan today. an all nippon airways flight was cancelled after an error message. on monday a fire broke out and yesterday a fuel leak cancelled another dream liner flight. not a good start for this very complex dreamliner aircraft. what is the company doing to rectify these problems? >> reporter: not a good start. the company held a conference call today to discuss the issues. they say the performance has been similar to the performance of the 777 when it first went into service and went on to say like any brand new plane there are issues. we have to work through them and move on. this is a big deal for boeing which has over 800 orders outstanding for the dreamliner and endured years and delays and problems getting the new plane off the ground in the first place. the bargain hunters are out. we are talking about a company that made $3.5 billion in profit in 2011, on track to top 4 billion for 2012. just to put this in perspective it only accounts for about 7% of total orders outstanding. >> it is meant to

. >> all right, brian, thanks very much. interesting and important stuff. >>> the boeing dream liner hasn't been in the air very long. in fact, the first delivery of one was fewer than 16 months ago. that's why a fire in a battery compartment of one plane is now so troubling. cnn's renee marsh is here working this story. what happened? >> this plane had just landed in boston from tokyo around 10:00 this morning. passengers deplaned. and the next set of passengers were ready to board when a mechanic inspecting the aircraft smelled smoke and called firefighters. they found heavy smoke in the cabin. and a fire in the underbelly of the aircraft. the flames were in a small electronics bay where batteries for an auxiliary power unit are kept. one of the batteries exploded. firefighters were able to extinguish the fire with a special flame retardant. firefighter suffered skin irritation. no passengers were hurt. the return flight to tokyo was canceled. we should also tell you the ntsb, the faa, as well as boeing and the airlines, they are all investigating the cause. >> i take it here too, this
